I don’t photograph a whole lot of weddings. It’s not that I don’t like weddings, I just don’t get the opportunity very often. The fact of the matter is, I don’t spend a lot of time looking for the opportunity. So when my friend Robbie asked me to photograph his daughter’s wedding, I was more than a bit hesitant. But eventually, I relented to book the job.
Damn you Robbie.
Last weekend I went out with Katie and Justin to photograph the couple for an engagement session, and the whole affair has changed my way of thinking about weddings. I had fun. Lots of fun. Any time I get behind the camera and get a chance to create, I have fun. And working with people is always fun. But Katie and Justin were a blast to be with. Katie is so damn cute and loves to laugh, and Justin is funny. Well, actually, Justin is a clown. We had so much fun, I almost forgot Nora, Katie’s Mom was there helping out.
The wedding is next year. We went to scout the location of the reception and it is a beautiful old mansion in Racine. Just walking through the place got me all excited. Every time I turned around, I saw another great image.
I got back into the game of photography because I missed it. I missed having an outlet for creativity. I missed the art. And I missed the fun of working with people in such a personal way. So when I really think about it, weddings are one of the reasons I have come back.
I think I’ll spend a little more time chasing down those opportunities. I would hate to miss out on all that fun.
Thank you Robbie.
