I have spent the last year and a half in a studio, building, customizing and chasing after work for that building. While I was able to get some studio work and had musicians creating there from time to time, I couldn’t seem to get enough to make it a worthwhile venture. So when the rent was increased, I made the decision to move out of the studio and go mobile. And while I miss having a creative space of my own, I have found that exploring the world outside the same 4 walls lends itself to new challenges and new creative problems to solve.

My backyard
So I’ve moved back out to the desert, where my journey started here almost exactly 2 years ago. But it’s not deja vu all over again. It’s not a new start to a new life like before. I’m not on a journey to find my way, heal my heart or fix my soul. What’s different?
Plenty.
First of all, I’m not in a tent, I have my house with me. My RV. A mobile studio, office and residence. I have heat, a fridge, a stove and a roof over my head, not to mention power and access to the interwebs via the hot spot on my phone.
The other difference is that I’m not alone this time. My companion, Walter the Wonder Dog is sharing this adventure with me. I adopted Walter from the shelter almost 2 years ago. He was 12 weeks old when he joined me. He has been a studio pup, part time model, exercise buddy and foot warmer in bed. He has heard all kinds of music rehearsed in the studio, been on hikes in the mountains and the deserts. He is full of energy and a very good listener. He loves the desert and the freedom it offers him to roam and run.
(He also loves Brandy at the bank drive thru window, cause she always give him a treat).

John and Walter the Wonder Dog
So it’s not so much the end of one journey and the beginning of another, it’s more a new path. A new path to new adventures.
The Continuing Adventures of Mike, John and Walter the Wonder Dog
I have a very good friend that is joining me and Walter on our new adventures in the world. John is a musician, a songwriter, a dreamer, an adventurer and a Navy veteran. We met at the studio, he was with the Gary Russell Band. They rehearsed about once a week at the studio. John has moved on to other projects. I have been blessed that he and I are collaborating on a few creative projects. One of those ongoing projects will be our adventure exploring the natural world.
I will be recording our exploits, the 3 of us, in photos and words.
I hope you’ll join us.
